King William Road in Hyde Park is about to experience a fresh wave of excitement as the highly anticipated Alt Wine Bar, created by celebrated chef Adam Robinson, opens to the public this weekend.

Offering a sophisticated and stylish nightlife hub, Alt aims to become the missing link for wine, cocktail, and small plates lovers in the area.

With a vision to elevate the street’s offerings, Adam Robinson, the owner of Burnside’s successful Lockwood General, saw an opportunity to create something unique on the bustling strip.

“Alt will fit in beautifully with restaurants on the strip like NIDO and ShoSho, where you can head to us earlier to start the evening or after for a great vibe,” Adam tells Glam Adelaide.

Drawing inspiration from his daytime success at Lockwood General, Adam wanted to add a night trade to his repertoire. Alt provided the perfect opportunity to realise his vision.

“Now I have the best of both worlds and I have the chance to cement my foot into the nightlife scene,” he expressed.

As guests step into Alt, they will be greeted by an extensive wine list and an intriguing selection of cocktails, designed by the venue manager, Courtney Price.

A particular highlight is the cocktail called the Siren Song, a delightful blend of Ginache, sour pineapple, and rhubarb—a perfect representation of Alt’s commitment to alternative and innovative creations.

The wine list, boasting a 200-bottle-strong collection, is a major feature of the interior. The venue’s monochromatic and brooding ambiance sets the stage for the 7x4m long wine wall, allowing the vibrant labels to do the talking and making the wall an evolving piece of art.

The thoughtful interior design extends to a large timber bar, crafted by Adam himself from a 150-year-old piece of wood, which serves as a communal table. This historical element adds a touch of charm and nostalgia to the contemporary setting.

Local artist Alex Bellas has contributed to the atmosphere with a captivating mural sweeping across the wall and ceiling towards the back of the space, where the bar is located, enhancing the artistic appeal of the venue.

True to Adam’s culinary expertise, Alt offers a great food menu focusing on small plates that complement the thoughtfully curated drinks list. From oysters sourced from Kangaroo Island to anchovy crostini with Calabrian chilli butter, parsley, and fresh lemon, the menu delights the palate with a range of sophisticated flavours.

Adam’s dedication to hospitality and exceptional customer service shines through at Alt.

“The heart of this venue will be our tangible love for the hospitality industry and those who work in it. Customer service will be a huge focus, as well as people who are charismatic and knowledgeable about the food and wine as a point of difference,” he emphasised.

Alt aims to become a place that patrons will fall in love with, planning their next visit even before leaving. Now, Adelaideans have the perfect destination to enjoy an alternative and exquisite nightlife experience, as Alt Wine Bar opens its doors on King William Road, inviting all to savor the charm of its monochromatic elegance and indulgent offerings.
