After years of loyal service, Cafe De Vili’s at Mile End has had a makeover. The iconic Adelaide cafe recently reopened its doors following a major renovation that saw the bakery completely refreshed with a sleek, modern look. What’s more, the renovation was carried out with the help of a dedicated team of Australian companies, so that every detail was locally sourced and built with care.
The cafe was closed for four days, starting at 4am on Monday 9th October, and in that short time, the transformation was huge. The entire interior was gutted and revamped, with new counters, flooring, and refrigeration installed throughout the cafe and kitchen. Custom cabinetry was made locally, while stainless steel accents were added to the walls, giving the space a polished feel.
“We haven’t had a renovation here for nearly 20 years, so it was well overdue,” Peter said. “We wanted to modernise the whole cafe while trying to hold onto some of the feel that we have. All of our customers are really endearing and love the place. Even when we were closed, it was quite amazing how many people came to do the door.”
Key elements of the renovation include custom cabinetry from Caterall, locally manufactured flooring by Armstrong Flooring, and installation by Tom and the team at Adelaide Floor Tech. The kitchen was outfitted with top-of-the-line equipment from LUUS, while Roband’s pie warmers were added so that customers can enjoy their Vili’s pies at the perfect temperature.
To keep the community fed while the cafe was closed for renovations, Cafe De Vili’s set up a pop-up store in their carpark. The temporary spot featured a marquee where customers could enjoy their famous pies, pastries, donuts, and coffee, so that no one had to miss out on their favourite treats during the renovation period.
Now that the cafe has reopened, customers can enjoy the full Vili’s experience in a beautiful new space. Cafe De Vili’s Mile End is open every day, offering a 24/7 cafe menu with something for everyone, from the famous Vili’s pastries and desserts to all-day breakfasts and à la carte hot meals.
