Oyster Barn, a local coastal town legend famous for their fresh seafood and sushi, has officially landed in Streaky Bay. Building on the success of their Ceduna location, the team decided to take their small fish and chip shop to the next level, and expand into a well-known local gem, rather than becoming just another franchise.
“That’s what the vision was in the beginning – that when you go and visit a small town, and you have your fish and chips from the local Oyster Barn of that town, it becomes part of your experience,” Owner Fil says.

The vision is to offer locally sourced seafood served up by familiar faces, creating a community-focused dining experience that is both genuine and affordable. The journey to now began in a friend’s backyard with a pizza oven, where Fil and the team started whipping up pizzas that quickly gained serious popularity around town. After saving up their earnings, they invested in their own pizza oven trailer and took their show on the road to Fowlers Bay – a tiny town in South Australia with a population of 20 people. That’s where their adventure really began.
“We would travel back and forth to locations where there was more people, utilising the tourists when they were there,” Fil says.
“We would travel to Ceduna, Penong, Streaky Bay… any other towns that we could get into.”
After getting a few of five-star reviews and positive feedback from customers on their pizzas, they were encouraged to keep going, despite not actually having that much experience in hospitality. From there, they were able to secure more funding to open their first Oyster Barn in Ceduna.

Now, with four local staff members working at in Streaky Bay, and 13 in Ceduna, Oyster Barn is thriving. Plans are in the works to open two more locations in the next year, bringing their famous seafood and sushi to even more coastal communities.
On top of Oyster Barn, the team still runs their popular pizza trailer, Pizza 4 Shore, in Ceduna, serving up traditional Neapolitan pizzas made with dough fermented for over 16 hours and cooked in a wood-fired oven.
From their humble beginnings of making pizzas out of a mates place, to now running multiple successful ventures, the mission of Oyster Barn remains deeply rooted in local community – to provide fresh seafood to all who live in, or travel through, small South Australian towns. Get behind these local legends in either Streaky Bay or Ceduna, and look out for where they might land next.
