After a few months of service at God’s Hill Wines in the Barossa Valley, Italian restaurant Edo Cucina has moved their delectable Roman-influenced cuisine a few streets down to The Lyndoch Motel, formerly known as Lyndoch Hill.
With a new kitchen brimming with delicious opportunities, the restaurant has officially opened its doors, entering a bold new era as a self-sufficient venue, open for lunch from Wednesday to Saturday, and dinner on Fridays and Saturdays.
As the newest venture of owner Edoardo Strappa, known for his previous restaurant Umbria Rustic Italian in Clare Valley, Edu Cucina blends Australian and Italian ingredients, including flour from both countries. The menu is highlighted by Pinsa, a Roman-style pizza, the Umbricelli Edo pasta with crab and cherry tomatoes, as well as their signature dish, home-made ravioli.
The menu also offers up three types of home made pasta, tasting boards, and desserts. As a feature of The Lyndoch Motel, Edo Cucina restaurant will also be available for weddings, parties and functions.
Committed to supporting local farmers, wineries and producers, the restaurant offers a taste of the region in every meal, sourcing seasonal produce of the highest quality to create vibrant and flavourful dishes.
Edo Cucina specialises in Pinsa, a Roman style pizza. Edoardo says “The dough is very, very light, because it’s been matured for over 48 hours. It has very little yeast. I use a starter instead. While Pizza is very established here, it’s more of a Naplese style, so this Roman approach to pizza is quite novel.”
Strappa’s journey as a restauranteur in South Australia has taken him through Clare Valley and the Barossa, with a hiatus in Italy in between. His previous restaurant, Umbria Rustic Italian, was considered a must-taste experience, serving traditional Italian cuisine packed with clean and robust flavours. Hosted in a historic building in Clare Valley, Umbria Rustic Italian mastered the simplicity of Italian cuisine through wonderfully crafted dishes brimming with flavour.
After a successful stretch of authentic Italian dining in Clare, Umbria closed when the Strappa family decided to return to Italy to start a new business. However, they encountered unexpected challenges due to the strict local regulations that, according to Edoardo, restricted trade, creative expression and innovation. His family also missed the relaxed, outdoor lifestyle of the Clare Valley region, so following heavy deliberation the Strappa’s decided to return to South Australia.
Now, Edoardo has snatched up the opportunity to continue his journey on a larger scale, as the owner of Edo Cucina steps into a larger kitchen with a brand new canvas for culinary expression. For Edoardo, the new creative space allows him to “focus on homemade pasta, continue making pinsa, and have a much bigger menu.”
Strappa has maintained an incredible reputation for his previous ventures in South Australia, and we don’t doubt that the relocation of Edo Cucina to a bigger space will keep the momentum going.
