A number of international brands have been making a splash in the South Australian athleisure market, with Rebel launching its first CX store in April and Nike expanding Unite in November. Following suit is lululemon athletica, which has just unveiled its third SA store.
Joining existing sites at Rundle Mall and Burnside, lululemon is excited to be opening in SA’s largest shopping centre, Westfield Marion. The 297sqm store will stock all the men and women’s products, include the core On The Move, Yoga, Run and Train ranges as well as the new ‘Play’ category, which currently includes new products for golf, tennis and hiking.
“We are thrilled to be expanding our presence in South Australia, with the arrival of our lululemon Marion store. This new store [Marion], along with the additional retail projects we have delivered this year, allows us to introduce the brand to new guests while meeting more of our existing guests in new and refreshed spaces,” says Area Director lululemon Australia and New Zealand, Trevor Holland.
“The new lululemon store in Marion offers an elevated brand expression, with a greater assortment of the product our South Australian guests they know and love.”
The Canadian multinational retailer was founded in 1998 and has developed a reputation for its leggings, yoga pants (a product that the brand allegedly created), yoga mats, and various accessories. lululemon athletica first entered the Australian market in 2004 and now boasts 36 stores across Australia and New Zealand.
While the history of yoga can trace its origins back 5,000 years to the Indus-Sarasvati civilization in Northern India, the humble yoga pant is a sprightly 24 years young. Initially made of a mix of nylon and lycra, yoga pants have evolved into everyday clothing, hence the birth of the term “athleisure”.
Fast-forward to today and the multi-billion dollar empire has set its sights on doubling its 2021 revenue of $6.25 billion to $12.5 billion by 2026. In 2022, lululemon has rolled out 11 retail projects across Australia and New Zealand, investing in both expanding and optimising its total footprint across the market to attract new guests to the brand.
On top of its retail stores and online presence, Lululemon has also unveiled ‘Lululemon Studio’ – a new service connecting members to the most dynamic fitness content, community and products – at home, in person and on the go. The platform builds upon more than 10,000 on demand and live-streamed classes that have been available with a MIRROR subscription.
The new SA location has taken over two vacant shops, formerly housing Taking Shape & Katie’s. Find lululemon athletica on the ground level of Westfield Marion now, next to Pandora.
