Today the doors open on Adelaide’s newest premium dining destination, Huami. Meaning ‘nectar’, Huami calls SkyCity Adelaide home and is celebrating Chinese culinary artistry through the finest local ingredients and contemporary techniques.

Last night, guests were treated to an exclusive preview event, indulging in a taste of what’s to come. They sampled Huami’s signature dishes, including a show-stopping Peking duck, roasted in the fruit wood-fired oven which takes pride of place at the centre of the restaurant. The night began with a colourful, high-energy, traditional lion dance performance that set the tone for an evening of spectacle, elegance and tradition.

The restaurant is a very exciting addition to the local dining scene. SkyCity Adelaide’s General Manager of Hospitality, Michael Neal, shared, “We’re excited to offer South Australia a unique, premium Chinese dining experience, and to welcome diners into a truly stunning space.”

The menu is guided by Shanghai-born Head Chef Johnny Zhong. After training under leading Australian chefs and honing his craft across both Chinese and Western cuisines, Johnny combines the artistry of traditional flavours with modern precision. His fruit-wood roasted Peking duck is already slated to be the signature dish, but diners can also expect Manuka honey glazed char siu pork, exquisite dim sum, and weekend yum cha service.

“The menu is firmly based in traditional Chinese cuisine but using modern techniques and the highest quality, local produce. We want Huami to showcase the best of both, so you’ll find Peking duck alongside SA Wagyu beef and seafood from our on-site live tanks,” said Michael.

The wine wall is a striking feature of the interior, fitting up to 700 bottles. Signature Outlets Manager, Jimmy Parham shared, “The wine wall is a highlight for me. It’s the first time we’ve had a space like this to showcase some of our back-vintage, rare gems that we’ve been carefully nurturing in the SkyCity Adelaide cellar, to complement the diversity of flavours on the menu.

“Beyond wine, what I’m also really excited about is the tea program. We’ve got beautiful, blooming lily and chrysanthemum, vintage and ripe Pu’er tea, and many you won’t find in any other restaurants in Adelaide.”

At last night’s launch, joining the VIPs in attendance were Alex Wong and Kylie Chow from Hong Kong design studio Paring Onions, the creative team behind Huami’s extraordinarily intricate interior. Their design takes inspiration from the grandeur of Cantonese Opera, where every detail plays a part in the story. The restaurant features dragon columns, glass-tiled ceilings, rich textures, and the soft glow of beechwood embers, blurring the lines between dining and theatre.

From the moment you enter, Huami feels less like a restaurant and more like a journey. It’s a celebration of Chinese culture reimagined for today, elegant, spirited, and totally captivating.

Huami is now open for dinner Thursday to Sunday 5pm to 10pm, and Yum Cha weekends from 11am to 3pm.
