NOW OPEN: Snapper Point Brewing boasts new 20-seat taphouse in Aldinga

Snapper Point Brewing is the brainchild of Dave Peacock, whose hobby home-brewing transformed into a thriving micro taphouse in Aldinga.

Aldinga Beach is not only one of the best beaches in the world but in recent times it has become home to funky pop bars, restaurants, pubs and now a fabulous new taphouse founded by local brewer Dave Peacock called Snapper Point Brewing.

When a small space came up for rent in a group of shops on The Esplanade in Aldinga, Dave saw this as an opportunity to open his own taphouse and sell his beer to the public which he started doing in June last year.

He opened next to Jimmies Takeaway and Pizza and Dave says it works well as people come across and have a beer whilst they wait for their food to cook.

Snapper Point Brewing is going to be the next big thing in craft beer and Dave still pinches himself that he gets to do what he loves and that is brewing beer.

Dave purchased a Coopers brewing kit in 2015 to start brewing his own beer as a hobby and to save some money.

Through watching You Tube videos he became hooked and realised that his beer tasted amazing.
Dave went along to a craft beer day at the Onkaparinga Rugby Club and this was when he knew he was onto something.

Despite being in his own words an ‘amateur brewer’, Dave’s keg of home brew sold out in less than an hour.

In 2020 he decided to get his license to be a fully qualified beer brewer and would work after hours from his full-time job at SA Water brewing beer.

He came up with the name Snapper Point Brewing because of his love of catching snapper and living right near the Snapper Point Reef in Aldinga.

Dave’s reputation continued to grow when at the Beer and BBQ Festival at Wayville in February in 2021 he unbelievably completely sold out of all of his beer by the second of the three days of the event.

Dave’s disbelief was further enhanced with one expert telling him he should quit his full-time job at SA Water.

Dave says this was unreal and he was over the moon, needless to say he definitely had quite a few celebratory drinks.

When Dave was made redundant from his job at SA Water in 2021 he began selling his Snapper Point Brewing cans to bottle shops.

Dave says his point of difference from other breweries is the intimacy of the venue and the unique flavors of some of his beers.

“The taphouse only has a capacity of 20 people and it’s got a bit of a mancave feel about it, I couldn’t afford to get a brewery that was any bigger but I like it that way,” Dave says.

“The Snapper Juice – a juicy IPA – has been the best seller so far and the Honey Haze which is brewed with honey by my brother who is a local apiarist.

“The BA Stout I do is the best going around, it’s brewed with molasses and my summer ale, ‘The Blonde Mullet’ is also a very popular mid-strength ale.”

Snapper Point Brewing is open on Friday at 4:00pm – 9:00pm, Saturday 12:00pm – 9:00pm and Sunday 12:00pm – 7pm.

Snapper Point Brewing Taphouse is located at 103 Esplanade, Aldinga Beach.
