With just over ten shopping weeks until Christmas, it’s exciting news that Adelaide’s favourite festive destination reopens its doors this week at a brand-new location.
The Christmas Heirloom Company will officially open its Dulwich store at 20 Stuart Road this month, marking its ninth season of bringing Christmas magic to South Australia.
Owners Angela and Marcelo Buccella say the move felt like coming full circle.
“We started nine years ago at Burnside. We’ve done east, we’ve done city, we’ve gone west, and now we’re back to the east. It just felt right,” Angela says.
“When I saw this building empty, I thought it would be the perfect spot for our Christmas shop.”
The heritage building, once a theatre and later a homewares store, has been transformed into a nostalgic wonderland of light, texture, and tradition.
“It’s a beautiful old building with so much character,” Angela says.
“We’ve added festoon lights to honour its history and played into its grandness. Our theme is all about nostalgia and tradition, which fits perfectly here.”

Inside, visitors can expect to wander through what Angela calls “little pockets of wow.”
“Everywhere you look, there’s something different. We’ve got our traditional red and gold tree that’s nine and a half feet tall and dripping in decoration, our pastel range that’s been popular the last few years, elegant white and gold displays, and even a colourful children’s section. There’s something magical in every corner.”
This year also brings a few new surprises. Alongside the traditional ranges and collectible heirloom pieces, The Christmas Heirloom Company will welcome The Cupcake Lady as an in-store pop-up from November.
“People will be able to grab cupcakes while they shop. It’s something fun and new,” Angela says.

Known for its exclusive pieces and European influence, the store features collections sourced from travels around the world.
“We’ve just come back from Italy with beautiful Christmas table runners and cushions you won’t find anywhere else,” Angela says.
“Most of our stock is exclusive to us. We’re the only Christmas Heirloom store in Australia, so our pieces are truly unique.”

Regulars who’ve been shopping with us for years will be racing through the doors for their annual treasures.
“We have our heirloom and collectable pieces, like musical decorations and nativities that get handed down through generations. When they’re gone, they’re gone. We don’t replace them, so they’re really special,” Angela says.
For anyone unsure where to start with decorating their home, office or event, inspiration is everywhere.
“We have twenty-three trees on display, all styled differently. Some people even buy the entire tree just as it is,” Angela laughs.

“We also offer tree hire and styling for homes and businesses, which has become really popular.”
And when is the right time to put the tree up? Angela doesn’t hesitate.
“In South Australia, it’s pageant week. That’s when most families do it. If you’re going to the effort, you should enjoy it. Put it up in November and make the most of it.”
