There’s a new seaside restaurant on the Fleurieu. And this one has a spectacular view.
Phil & Cassie Cowdrey, proprietors of highly acclaimed Pelican Bistro at the Goolwa Surf Life Saving Club, have revealed their newest venture, The Chiton Restaurant.
Manager Ashleigh McKenzie told Glam Adelaide that they had been looking for a venue to mirror the popular Pelican Bistro further along the coast.
“Phil and Cassie have owned Pelican Bistro for just under a year, and have been looking a way to expand their vision to Port Elliott and Victor Harbor. And with The Chiton Restaurant, we’ve got a spot right in between both locations” she said.
And when she says right in between, she really means it.
“The view we have here is stunning. On the left we have Knights Beach, and on the right, the sun sets over Granite Island and The Bluff. There’s dolphins and everything. It’s seriously spectacular.”
On warm days, you can wander down the mere 6 steps to the beach, and have a swim. Then wash up, dry off, and wander back to have a cold beer. And on weekends, the iconic Cockle Train passes four or five times a day, proving to be super popular for kids and families.
In terms of menu, Ashleigh says that the goal has been to showcase as much local produce – both food and drink – as possible.
“One of the highlights is our Pipi Kilpatrick, which is our twist on the famous Oyster Kilpatrick but using pipi’s from Goolwa. They’ve flown out the door!”
Using the same, fresh, local seafood, you can also indulge in the Gamberi linguine, with SA prawns, in a garlic, napoli, and a white wine sauce; or the Pipi Puttanesca, with garlic, chilli, basil, tomato and herbs.
And if you’re in the mood for some standard pub food, they’ve also got burgers, schnitties, and good old fish and chips. And everything (bar the schnitzels) is gluten free, so it’s super friendly for those with dietaries.
And if it doesn’t get any better, owner Cassie is a pastry chef by trade – and so all the cakes, and pastries are made in house, by scratch.
To quench your thirst, you can enjoy a range of Prancing Pony’s beers, a Bird in Hand bubbles, or a white from Tomic Hill. There’s also the Lake Breeze Wines’ Section 54 Shiraz which, Ashleigh says, flies out the door.
So, with the weather warming up, and Summer around the corner, there’s no better time to get along to the newest restaurant on the Fleurieu.
