Do you work in Adelaide’s CBD and need a new quick grab-and-go coffee spot?
Bean Counter is the latest spot to open its doors on Morphett Street, bringing a twist on your usual coffee joint. Owner Shane Buck has worked as an accountant for the past 25 years, but felt it was time to switch it up and open his own coffee shop.
“The name Bean Counter is actually a funny story. I am an accountant by trade for the last 25 years. I’ve worked in finance and the wine industry, and overseas for a few years. But, I love cafes, so it’s always been in the back of my head.”
Shane says he’s considered buying a cafe for the last few years, but decided to start from scratch.
“I was thinking about buying one, but nothing was quite right. So I thought I’d just open one myself. Bit of a change of tactic I guess.”
When looking to find a place to start up shop, Shane identified a gap on Morphett St.
“It’s part residential, part small business, probably 50/50. I found the shop a few months ago and spent 3 months putting the place together. I’m really happy with it.”
The cafe is more of a grab-and-go style, where people can stop by for a coffee or a bite to eat. The menu is perfect for those working from home, or in need of a quick pick me up during the work day. The breakfast wraps are most popular, filled with bacon, egg, cheese and then toasted to perfection.
It pairs well with the ever popular iced latte, flat white or cappucino. There’s biscuits and sweet treats as well, for those in need of a sugar hit during the day.
“Its not really a dine-in cafe, but the coffee is great,” Shane says.
“You can come grab your coffee and your breakfast. I think the traditional business model, where you sit down and dine in, is struggling, and there was nothing like this in the area.”
Shane will always recommend an extra shot in your coffee: “I’m a double shot fan, I always have been… and the medium roast is just delicious. I spent heaps of time sourcing and perfecting the coffee, and I’m proud of what we’ve come up with.”
Now an ex 9am to 5pm worker, Shane understands the need to be in and out quickly, so he promises great coffee, that you won’t be waiting 15 minutes or more for. This is also thanks to the fantastic team of baristas he’s got on board.
