At lakeside restaurant Oar, all day brunch is the name of the game.
Headed by the team behind Henley Beach’s 303 By The Sea, Oar is a haven for sampling coffee and tucking into a ricotta and raspberry hotcake.
Recently awarded Best Breakfast Restaurant (Metro South & West) in the R&CA’s Awards for Excellence, the restaurant sits right on the water at West Lakes, and boasts a fireplace and contemporary decor.
Caffeine fanatics will be pleased to know that Oar offers “extra-large” coffees. Said coffees comes in mugs almost too big to wrap your hands around – the antidote to cold mornings and tired eyes alike.
When it comes to the food, the menu emphasises local, fresh ingredients utilised to create playful, extremely Instagrammable dishes.
Oar has a particular focus on waffles, serving up both savoury and sweet varieties.
The menu features a seeded rye waffle with Adelaide Hills smoked salmon, poached eggs, house hollandaise, crushed peas and avocado topped with endives, dill, pea shoots and capers.
Another option is the sticky date waffle with fresh banana, winter fruits, roasted hazelnut, Anzac crumble, frozen custard, and a sticky toffee sauce.
Of course, the usual brunch suspects also make an appearance. Punters can order avocado and feta smash with toasted rye, walnut, herb and pomegranate salsa, Za’tar spiced shredded root vegetables, greens and poached eggs.
Another Oar favourite is the breakfast burger with a spiced sausage patty, grilled haloumi, fried egg, baby spinach, tomato, spiced capsicum and aioli in a toasted ciabatta roll.
Oar also has an extensive cocktail and wine list. Punters can take a seat at one of the outdoor tables and sip on a Bloody Mary whilst watching the water.
