Odd Socks Day Is This Week

To be honest, it’s kind of every day… but for charity we’ll definitely make a point of it this Friday!

Are those odd socks we see? Do you have a mis-matched pair in your drawer? It’s time to slap on those socks and help change the lives of thousands of Australians.

Show Adelaide that you have the sox-appeal (be the soxiest in your office just ooze soxiness); wear odd socks this Friday 7 October, and help raise money for those living with a mental illness.

Sadly, 50% of Australians will endure mental illness at some point in their life, and with suicide being the leading cause of death from people aged 15-24. Exactly why it’s time to pull up those odd socks and show our support to those suffering.

How will wearing odd socks help those with mental illness, you ask? Even acknowledging it in your own day is a part of being mindful. But there’s plenty of fun to be had as well; an office lunch or cake drive where everyone can add a couple of dollars, or even throw back a couple of cool beers after work and pool all of your loose change. The take your donation to the Odd Socks Day website.

All donations go towards one of three programs: The Group program, Youth program, or the Residential program.
Everyone involved still has their entire lives ahead of them. Help show them that there is something that can be done to overcome their mental health struggle, and there are people there to help.

There is also the unique program, ‘Grow’, which helps provide the practical skills and support to people with mental illness to assist in transforming their lives. ‘Grow’ has a mission to give those who are dealing with a mental health illness, the tools needed to rebuild their relationships, work and social life. They offer a 12 step program full of wisdom, to share every reason why life is too precious to be lived unhappily.

The only thing needed to be a part of grow is to have the aspiration of bringing love, hope and meaning back into your life, and with 200 groups all over Australia, it’s no wonder why 83% of participants say they can now take charge of their lives.

All ‘Grow’ sessions are free! They are there to help, not for their own profit, but for yours.

So, if you know someone dealing with a mental illness, or you’d just like to contribute, here’s the website again for more information.

Even complete the online survey to go into the “drawer” to win a year supply of socks, to mis-match how you like, and help join the fight against mental illness. That doesn’t sound too bad!
