Ready to say cheers with beers and unleash your competitive side? Oktoberfest is back for its fourth year at Brightstar Brewing in Thebarton, bringing German traditions to life with new in-house brews, a 20-piece Oompah band, and the chance to catch a flying sausage for a prize.
This year promises a bigger, bolder Bavarian celebration. The team at Brightstar is going all out to give Adelaide a taste of Munich’s energy and charm.
Owner Gareth says the music is key.
“They’re incredible. It’s all big, uplifting, dancing songs that get everyone up and moving.”
The brewery is releasing two new beers just for the occasion. A Festbier and a Hefeweizen are ready to pour, both brewed in-house.
“They’ve got flavours like banana and bubble gum,” Gareth explained.
“It’s our fourth Oktoberfest, and it’s definitely my favourite day of the year. We always start on the same day as Munich, with the official keg tapping streamed live here at the brewery. It feels like you’re part of the action in Germany.”

It wouldn’t be Oktoberfest without some cheeky competition. The Brat Toss has become a crowd favourite. It’s free to enter, and the challenge is simple—catch a long sausage and win a prize. “It’s silly but so much fun,” said Gareth.
Things get serious with the stein-holding competition.
“You’ve got to hold a one-litre beer with your arm straight out, and we run separate rounds for men and women. People even train for it,” he said.
The whole thing kicks off at midday. Expect Gareth in Lederhosen, mic in hand, dancing through the crowd and calling the action. The vibe is festive, loud and full of heart.
“Oktoberfest is about community. It’s about celebrating with our customers and giving Adelaide a little slice of Bavaria,” said Gareth.
