Thrill-seekers and paranormal enthusiasts will have the chance to explore one of South Australia’s most eerie locations, the Adelaide Gaol, during a special paranormal lock-in event this June.
The event is for adults over 18 and will run for approximately three hours, promising to be an intense investigation into the supernatural.
Guests will be provided with a full suite of professional paranormal detection equipment, including EMF detectors and voice recording gear. Experienced paranormal investigators will be on hand to guide and train participants in using the equipment.
The gaol, known for its chilling history, played host to many of Adelaide’s most notorious criminals from 1841 until its closure in 1988. During the lock-in, guests will explore different parts of the gaol, including areas where former guards were too frightened to enter at night.
The tour will include visits to the cell of John Balaban, an inmate who carried out one of Adelaide’s most chilling murder sprees, killing his wife and stepson in 1953. It is said that Balaban’s spirit is still present, and people might catch a glimpse of his ghost.
The tour guides will share stories of other inmates who spent their final days within the gaol’s walls, including Elizabeth Woodcock. She was only woman to be lawfully executed in SA, who faced the gallows for poisoning her husband.
Visitors will also be able to go to the gallows, where they will see the hangman’s noose and trapdoor that ended the lives of many prisoners.
The tour is not only an opportunity to possibly encounter the paranormal, but a time to learn about the grim history of the Adelaide Gaol. The guides will recount tales and show real footage from past investigations, sharing captured evidence of the afterlife that has intrigued many previous visitors.
