One Magic Bowl

The City of Onkaparinga, South Australian Tourism Commission and the 2011 BigPond Adelaide Film Festival (BAFF) are delighted to present ONE MAGIC BOWL directed by gastronome, author and restaurateur Gay Bilson following her groundbreaking and memorable mass feeding events for the Adelaide Festival of Arts.

ONE MAGIC BOWL is part of APPETITE, a tantalising new program of feature films and documentaries that celebrate, revel in and challenge our relationship with food, presented during the 2011 BigPond Adelaide Film Festival and proudly sponsored by Yalumba Wines.

Using produce of the region, a team of some of the finest local chefs from restaurants including D’Arry’s Verandah (Nigel Rich), Fino (David Swain and Sharon Romero), Salopian Inn (Billy Dohnt), Penny’s Hill Kitchen Door (Ben Sommariva), Russell’s Pizza (Emma Baxter and Russell Jeavons), Chapel Hill Retreat (Rebecca Stubbs and Brent Lanthois), Hoffman’s Winery’s The Currant Shed (Kerryn Oates), Jetty Food Store (Stephen Schmidt with John Sussman and Julie Sigalis), and the Victory Hotel (Glenn Worrell), as well as Genevieve Harris from Sumptuous Magazine and Cheong Liew, formerly chef of The Grange restaurant for 14 years, will prepare a MAGIC BOWL for over 1000 patrons on stunning Pt Willunga Beach. Each chef will make his or her own version of a sumptuous fish stew or soup, using local sourced produce.

As you arrive on the beach, exchange your ticket for a handmade ceramic bowl, especially designed for the event by award winning ceramicist Prue Venables and produced by the Jam Factory. As dinner is served, it will be filled with delectable produce. The meal will be simple, fresh, and fulfil the tenets of Slow Food: good, clean and fair. Fill your bowl, enjoy the food, and then take your bowl home.

As the sun sets, savour the exceptional flavours of the Fleurieu and absorb the wonderful view, as you are entertained with live music and projections on the cliffs. This will be a truly magical experience for all the senses.

All tickets $30 including meal and your Jam Factory bowl to keep. On sale 1 December 2010. Book online at http://www.adelaidefilmfestival.org/
