Charles Ross last toured with One Man Star Wars Trilogy and is now he is back with One Man Lord of the Rings. Small projects are clearly not his style. On a small bare stage, dressed in black and with no props or costumes Ross recreates the entire film trilogy, all of the characters, the sound effects and the music and songs.

Ross navigates his way through the main moments in The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers and The Return of the King with barely a moment’s pause, apart from a quick drink of water between each of the three sections, and a couple of seconds of song for the DVD changes.

He does a superb job of sounding like all of the characters in the films, including growling orcs, Treebeard, Shelob and many other non-human characters. The conversation between the two personalities of Gollum and Sméagol, major battle scenes and dozens of other moments are treated to his energetic and humorous approach to his subject.

This is an extremely physical performance coupled with a rapid fire delivery of an immensely complex script. Ross hardly has time to take breath as he delivers his monologue and throws himself all over the small stage.

He makes plenty of funny comments, brief asides, short parodies and interacts with the audience in a very clever, hilarious and extremely well written performance.

If J. R. R. Tolkien’s hobbits, elves, dwarves, wizards and heroes are as familiar to you as members of your own family, then this is definitely a show that you will want to see.
