One Man Theatre Company Snatches Its Second Gong!

On Feb 8 Davine Interventionz Productions won the Theatre Association of South Australia’s MusiCAL Award for its 2015 production of ‘The Story Of My Life’.

David Gauci’s Davine Interventionz Productions has added to the trophy cabinet with the announcement on Monday Feb 8 that it won the Theatre Association of South Australia’s prestigious MusiCAL Award for its 2015 production of The Story Of My Life.

It’s wonderful to be acknowledged’ was how David Gauci announced the win on his Face book page yesterday.

Davine Interventionz burst onto the scene back in 2013 when they produced the musical Altar Boyz and was immediately nominated for a ‘best ensemble’ award by the Adelaide Theatre Guide (A.T.G.). In 2014 Davine went one better when it won the A.T.G. Best Musical Award for its Adelaide premiere production of Xanadu – the musical. (Kate Dempsey, who played the lead role, won best female that year too!).

The Story Of My Life was a very special production, the stars aligned and I was able to have an amazing cast with Paul Rodda and David Salter. I was also blessed with a Musical Director, Peter Johns, who was as passionate about the musical as I was.’  David goes on to say ‘…awards recognize so many things, the risk, the frustration and the elation of making theatre but most of all they recognize the community of people who make this magic happen, and I am thankful to all who help’.

There is no time for rest for the producer, who works full time at Cardijn College as their co-curricular music coordinator, teaches singing privately and has another Adelaide premiere coming up in a matter of a week and a half. ‘The Light In The Piazza is shaping up to be one of the most ambitious, fulfilling and delicious musicals that my company has produced. I couldn’t be prouder of the work of the wonderful cast, including David Visentin, Katie Packer, Kristin Stefanoff and Lindsay Prodea or the impressively hard working creative team in Director Hayley Horton and Musical Director Peter Johns… they are creating something exquisite.’

The Light in the Piazza takes the stage at Star Theatre One – February 24 though to March 5, 2016.  Star Theatre is located at 145 Sir Donald Bradman Drive, Performances are at 7.30 p.m. with an additional 2 p.m. Matinee on Saturday March 5.
