Stepping out of the Cabaret Festival to appear for one show only at La Boheme, local lad Benjamin Finn proved himself an impressive vocalist and the most charming of comedians.

With a sideways glance, a throw away line or a lyrical twist, his enormously entertaining cameo in the Cabaret Fringe showed the range and generous spirit of this performer.

The relaxed afternoon opened with Max Garcia Underwood, an impressive vocalist and guitarist singing some soft rock that was worthy of a headline act in itself. He remained to accompany Finn and guests through most of the dozen or so routines, ranging from the droll to the romantic.

The lovely Ms Chris Mason joined Finn on stage for a duet and solo, and Melbourne’s Luke Jacka impressed with an a capella rendition of “Umbrella”. Angela Welsh also joined in on piano for a couple of numbers including the delightful “Letting You Go”.

With a fine wine in hand, there could have been no better Sunday afternoon finale to such a successful Cabaret Fringe Festival.
