Online form now available to Optus customers to fast-track licence replacement

Effective immediately, South Australians affected by the recent Optus data breach will be able to apply for a replacement licence online via their mySAGOV account – without having to attend a Service SA Centre.

Service SA has already processed well over 62,000 in-person driver’s licence, permit or proof-of-age card replacement requests in the past two weeks, but has been working on an online solution to allow affected customers to access this service without having to attend a Service SA centre.

This online licence form is now live for customers to use.

Treasurer Stephen Mullighan says “From this morning, affected customers will be able to get a new licence or permit number at no cost and at a time that suits them, without having to attend a Service SA Centre.

“This provides a secure and flexible process for licence holders using the safe environment of the mySAGOV system, while easing the demand on our centres.

“Our heartfelt thanks go out to the wonderful staff at Service SA who have worked tirelessly over the past two weeks to process an unprecedented number of licence replacement requests.”

The new form provides a simpler and more convenient option for the tens of thousands of South Australians who have had their details compromised, removing the requirement for them to attend a Service SA office in person.

It will also help to manage the current very high demand and staffing resources at Service SA centres across the state.

Existing mySAGOV account holders will be able to access the secure online form by visiting the Service SA website at service.sa.gov.au and logging in with their mySAGOV account details, an option already open to nearly 900,000 South Australians currently holding verified mySAGOV accounts.

Optus customers advised that their licence number has been affected by the breach will need to make a declaration stating they have received notification their details have been compromised.

Service SA will process these online forms as quickly as possible, with customers to be notified by email once their application has been completed.

Once processed, customers will be able to access their new licence number through their mySAGOV account and on the mySAGOV app. 

A new driver’s licence card will be produced and posted to the applicant, to arrive in 1-2 weeks.

All mySAGOV account holders are strongly encouraged to set up two-factor authentication to further protect their personal information.

Customers affected by the Optus data breach using the new online form will still receive a free licence replacement, with the State Government continuing to waive the usual $20 fee.

Discussions are continuing with Optus to ensure any taxpayer liability will be reimbursed by the company.

Customers will still be able to attend Service SA centres in person to organise a replacement licence if they wish.
