The Adelaide Central Market is set to turn up the flavour this spring, as Opa Alfajores becomes the latest star to take over the Market’s Producer in Residence stall. From Tuesday, October 28th, shoppers can try their blend of sweet and savoury South American delights, all handmade, all local, and all designed to make you say ‘Opa!’
Opa Alfajores comes from the brains of husband-and-wife duo Pablo Zamelson and Sharon Raciazek, who began their small family-run pastry shop and cafe during 2023. Passionate about bringing the comforting flavours of Uruguay to Adelaide, the couple have built a cult following for their soft, buttery alfajores, a tender biscuit sandwich filled with creamy dulce de leche that quite literally melts in your mouth.
“‘Opa’ is exactly the reaction you’ll have when one of our alfajores melts in your mouth!” shared co-owner, Pablo Zamelson. “At our core, we craft everything by hand in our open kitchen, using premium local ingredients to ensure every bite is an authentic taste of South America.”
While their signature alfajores are big drawcard, Opa Alfajores will bring Market goers a line-up of freshly baked savoury treats. There will be golden empanadas paired with house-made chimichurri, alongside other pastries inspired by South America’s street food culture. Plus, everything is baked fresh each morning.
For the Opa team, returning to the Producer in Residence stall is especially exciting. “We are passionate about sharing our story, supporting the Market’s local producers, and giving visitors a taste of authentic South American flavour made right here in SA.”
The Market’s Producer in Residence program continues to be a launchpad for some of South Australia’s most exciting food innovators. Every three weeks, the stall transforms to feature a different artisan producer, including everyone from bakers and brewers to growers and distillers, giving small businesses the chance to test their products and meet customers face-to-face in one of Adelaide’s most beloved foodie spots. You’ll be able to find this near the North West Grote Street entrance.
