A veritable who’s-who of the Adelaide art community will converge on the Arkaba Hotel later this month for the unveiling of the first work of art to receive the Arkaba Commission. Winning artist Kate Kurucz will reveal her creation entitled Celloprofane test #1.

The Arkaba Commission is a joint initiative between the Arkaba Hotel and the Adelaide Central School of Art to promote young artists and celebrate their work. The annual Commission is valued at $5,000 and recognises a worthy artist who graduated from the school within the last three years.

Kate graduated from the Adelaide Central School of Art with an Honours degree in 2012 and has since been selected for the 2013 Helpmann Academy Graduate Exhibition, where her work featured as the catalogue cover image.

The Celloprofane Commission is described as three paintings featuring “reflective surfaces and rich colours” and conveying “a sense of playful glamour and fun”.

Kate’s work will be auctioned at a gala dinner in the hotel’s Top Room on Thursday April 16 and will remain on display in the hotel until July. Funds raised from the auction and dinner will go towards a scholarship for an outstanding Bachelor of Visual Art graduate from the Adelaide Central School of Art.
