One of Adelaide’s premier fundraiser events returns this month and it’s set to be bigger than ever, attracting over 1000 participants to the scenic River Torrens location. The Walk to Defeat MND raises funds for the Motor Neurone Disease Association (MNDSA) to provide care services and vital equipment to support people living with Motor Neurone Disease (MND).

What started as humble beginnings has now blossomed into powerful wave of community, compassion and colour, drawing from far and wide each year in a blue sea of unity.

“Our Walk has seen incredible growth over the past eight years — from just 400 participants in its early days to now over 1,000,” explains Karen Percival, CEO of MNDSA.

“That rise reflects the growing awareness in our community, not just of the devastating impact of MND, but of the urgent need to support people living with the disease right now, and not only to fund research for a cure.”

From families and friends to corporate teams, the event encourages walkers of all ages and abilities – even our four-legged friends are welcome to join.

The day serves an important mission, raising vital funds and awareness for Motor Neurone Disease. Every dollar raised helps goes directly towards people living with MND – along with their families, carers and friends – helping to provide tailored care and support.

“These funds help us provide vital services through our Client Services Team, as well as supply and maintain essential equipment. As the disease progresses and a client’s needs change, we’re able to ensure they have the right support at the right time,” shares Karen.

Starting from 9:00am, the 4.5km loop begins and ends at Pinky Flat in North Adelaide, right opposite Adelaide Oval. The route is fully accessible and designed for everyone to go at their own pace with encouragement and support from friendly MNDSA volunteers along the way.

More than just a walk, this event is about community spirit and comradery. Once the circuit is complete, Pinky Flat transforms into a vibrant gathering with the BBQ sizzling, live entertainment, raffles, and family-friendly fun. Think community vibes, delicious eats, and the kind of feel-good energy that makes you proud to be an Adelaide local.

“It is an event for the community impacted by MND to come together in unity. MNDSA could not do what we do without the financial and volunteer support of the South Australian community,” she explains.

The team at MNDSA is thrilled to welcome Enable and Kanda (formerly Programmed Care) as Gold Sponsors for this year’s event, helping bring this special day to life.

With such strong community and sponsor backing, the Walk to Defeat MND is more than just a fundraiser, it’s a united front against a devastating disease.

“Most of us know someone whose life has been affected by MND. Taking part in the Walk to Defeat MND is a powerful way to stand with those who are facing one of life’s toughest diagnoses,” adds Karen.

“Your support ensures that no one has to face MND alone — that from day one, they have the care and dignity they deserve.”

So, grab your walking shoes and your pup’s leash, dress in your best blue, and get ready to join a movement that truly matters.
