Paella, live jazz-funk & local art set to transform Gunson Street into the CBD’s ultimate laneway party

Adelaide knows how to street party, and Gunson Street Party is bringing live bands, pop-up stages, street performances, and local talent to one hub for one day only.

A tucked-away laneway behind Pulteney Street is about to become one of the state’s most creative corners. Yep, Gunson Street is turning into a full-blown festival playground this October for the inaugural Gunson Street Party – and if there’s one thing we know for sure, it’s that Adelaide knows how to street party.

For one night only – Halloween to be exact – the street will transform into a hub, a collision, an amalgamation of music, markets, art and eats, celebrating everything that makes this hidden corner of the city so extraordinary. Expect live bands, pop-up stages, local makers, street performances and plenty of good food and drink.

The idea came about from discussions with local businesses.

“The shared passion was clear: to highlight their strengths, welcome new audiences, and energise a part of the city often overlooked,” Tanya Press, Place Partner of City South East, tells us. This was echoed by people in the community.

The day kicks off from 4pm, with retailers and makers spilling out onto the street. Wander the stalls of handcrafted jewellery, browse the fashion, treat yourself to a glow up with The Society and Co, and marvel at unique prints from local artists. You can even co-create your own piece of art with Youth Inc. and The Mill’s interactive installations.

Then there’s the food.

“Expect pop-up bar hosted by Somewhere House and food stalls from Pulteney Street and Gunson Street favourites: such as Diaspora, The Cheeky Greek, Paella Man, Cucina Express, Mamacita Bar, Tryp Hotel and Mr. Mario,” says Press.

They’ll be joined by plenty of craft beer and wine options from locally loved producers, as well as some alcohol-free sips for those opting out of booze.

And because no Adelaide laneway party is complete without a top-tier soundtrack, the rollout is stacked with some of the state’s best.

“The lineup is a dynamic showcase of Adelaide’s emerging and established talent, blending soulful live music, vibrant DJ sets, and roaming Latin performers,” says Press.

As for what names to keep an eye out for, “There’s no picking favourites in Gunson Street,” she adds. “We’ve curated a lineup brimming with standout talent, and every act brings its own spark.”

The beats start with synth-pop powerhouse My Chérie (4–4:45 pm) before Barnabas Bosisto’s jazz-funk energy (5–5:45 pm) gets the groove rolling. Then Short Snarl’s art-indie edge (6–6:45 pm), Jess Johns’ soulful singer-songwriter set (7–7:45 pm) and The Dainty Morsels (8:15–9 pm) will close the night in blues-rock style. Between sets, Lamboba Productions keeps the vibe alive with DJ interludes, while Latin roving performers add rhythm and colour to every corner.

“Interim Studios have been fantastic collaborators, curating musicians and will be hosting a pop-up stage from their warehouse,” says Press.

“It’s a sound journey that invites you to wander, dance, and discover something new around every corner.”

Gunson Street Party is family-friendly affair, with chill zones, kid-friendly activities (including an epic Mindshift Escape Room) as well as plenty of spots to kick back under the lights. Whether you’re there for the tunes, the tacos or the atmosphere, the party promises something for everyone. So grab your crew, come early, stay late and soak up the local love.

“Every corner of the street becomes a canvas for connection, creativity, and celebration,” shares Press.

“It’s a collaborative activation, where businesses, artists and locals come together to reimagine their own neighbourhood. It’s a wonderful example of what happens when local passion meets public celebration.”
