Good news, filmgoers: Adelaide’s Palace Nova Cinemas Prospect, is set to reopen on Monday 1 June.
Glam caught up with Palace’s State Manager Karen Karpinski to find out what we can expect now, and in the coming weeks.
“The shutdown has been hugely disruptive but a necessary step as the entire country has made sacrifices to avoid a pandemic locally. South Australia’s rigorous approach to lockdown has ensured that our local cinema industry can restart sooner than many other cities around the country and world,” Karen says.
Of course the reopening will take place under health and safety guidelines for the foreseeable future.
“We are going over and above with our sanitising measures to eliminate all risk. We are encouraging people to purchase their tickets online, conducting staff temperature checks as well as having separated seating within the cinemas,” Karen says.
Palace have curated a fantastic selection of more recent releases (especially those that had a limited run due to the shutdown), classics, and festival favourites. Current offerings include Parasite, Bladerunner, The Dark Knight, Honeyland, Little Women and Marianne & Leonard: Words of Love.
Although overseas releases are some time off, there are new Australian releases to look forward to.
“There are a number of Australian films slated for release in the coming weeks and months including the Sam Neill and Michael Caton drama Rams, Ben Mendelssohn and Essie Davis drama Babyteeth, Robert Connolly’s thriller The Dry starring Eric Bana, and many more including Penguin Bloom and Higher Ground.”
And for film festival lovers, the news is looking good too, says Karpinski.
“Film Festivals across the globe have layered their plans, with some opting for online festivals while others have delayed until later in the year. We expect many film festivals will return to Palace Nova before the end of the year while some will return in 2021.”
So with your COVIDSafe App, grrab a couple of your healthiest friends and a choc-top and settle back into some great cinema.
