Pandemic Leave Disaster Payment launched to supplement exhausted sick leave

Scott Morrison has unveiled a Pandemic Leave Disaster Payment for Victorians who have to isolate ‘through no fault of their own’.

The Federal Government has announced a supplement support for the state of Victoria as they undergo their deadliest day since the start of the pandemic.

The announcement follows today’s announcement by Victorian Premier, Daniel Andrews that a range of Victorian industries and businesses will be forced to close as the latest restriction put in place under Stage 4 lockdown.

Victoria recorded 429 new cases and 13 deaths overnight.

Prime Minister, Scott Morrison has said that a Pandemic Leave Disaster Payment will be available for everyone who has to isolate ‘through no fault of their own’.

Those who have no more sick leave available to them, are eligible for a $1500 payment for a fortnight, modelled on the same criteria that the Victorian government has put in place.

Mr Morrison says that this payment is particularly for those on short term visas who otherwise wouldn’t have access to Commonwealth payments.

This payment is alike the disaster payments available for families during the Australian bushfires in December, January and February.

Mutual obligations for JobSeeker in Victoria has also been suspended.

The payments are available to eligible Victorians, however, Mr Morrison has stated that should another state be declare ‘disaster’, this payment will be available to them too.

Victorians can apply for the Pandemic Leave Disaster Payment by calling 1802266 from Wednesday.

This payment can be accessed multiple times.

More to come.
