Paolo Sebastian has unveiled its 2024-25 Autumn/Winter Couture Collection titled “A Lover’s Kiss.” This release comes as a homage to the enduring narratives of legendary romances that have intrigued and moved audiences for centuries. Creative Director and Designer, Paul Vasileff, has crafted a twelve-piece line-up, drawing from the raw and mesmerizing facets of love portrayed in some of the most legendary stories.
“There is nothing quite like a great love story,” Paul Vasileff shared. “Whether it’s transcendent or tragic, there’s a reason these stories continue to stand the test of time.”
This latest collection garners inspiration from classical tales of love such as Romeo and Juliet, the ill-fated lovers; Dante and Beatrice, where divine grace leads to spiritual ascension; and Cupid and Psyche, a story of eternal devotion. These narratives not only highlight the strength and sacrifices made in the name of love but also underscore it as a supreme force.
“As long as stories have been told, love has been at the heart of them.” continues Vasileff. “This collection was deeply inspired by many of these; Romeo and Juliet, Dante and Beatrice, Cupid and Psyche. But also the dramatic mood and romance of the Renaissance, the painted frescoes of Rome…”
“A Lover’s Kiss” is a visual ode to the Renaissance, showcasing romantic hues like garnet, nebbia, antique gold, rosa alabastro, and grigio chiaro. The collection marries simplicity with opulence through elements such as sheer draping, flowing capes, and elegant empire waistlines combined with voluminous bishop sleeves, intricate caged corsetry, and bold skirt projections. The garments feature embroidered cutwork in silk organza and illusion tulle, evoking images of chainmail, armour, tapestries, and themes of celestial clouds, cherubs, and stars.
“This collection isn’t about sugar-coated love stories, but the ones that captivate and wrench at the heart,” Vasileff explained. “It’s romance in its rawest form, about lovers who are willing to rise above opposing forces, do anything to be together — even die for each other.”
Highlighting the collection, the “Trials of Venus” gown celebrates Psyche’s determination to overcome Venus’ challenges and reunite with Cupid. This piece features a garnet draped mercado with cape and cascading bishop sleeves. Another stunning creation, the “Graceful Warrior” gown, displays an empire-draped embroidered chainmail gown with cape, reflecting on the ancient heroes’ armours and their motifs of honour and fidelity. The “Suit of Armour” gown features an antique gold palette with a Paolo Sebastian crest plate, nodding to Romeo’s honourable commitment to Juliet.
The collection concludes with a wedding dress that encapsulates the essence of the entire series. Titled the “True Love” gown, it features crystal embroidery with a draped chemise underlay and a glittering crown, celebrating the ideal of love transcending all bounds.
