When Surahn and Jessica Sidhu first purchased a 9-acre Willunga property back in 2017, it was an empty canvas waiting to be transformed. After many long days and nights of building, planting and creating they turned the lifeless block into the prosperous farmstead that is Papershell and also operates as one of the last remaining almond orchards in the area.
Growing almonds is at the core of the Papershell but it certainly isn’t the only offering. Papershell Lodge, a beautiful, self-contained studio, allows guests to escape the hustle and bustle for a night or two and the workshops offer a creative outlet led by talented locals looking to inspire.
But it’s the new ‘Almond Door’ that is giving visitors a true insight into the passion and commitment behind the property. A play on the winery term, the Papershell Almond Door is a breath of fresh air to the acreage’s timeworn shed and sits overlooking the blossoming orchards.

The walls are lined with foodstuffs made onsite from jams and pickles to handcrafted wares, all available for purchase, and with one step inside the quaint, wooden barn, you are instantly enveloped with a curious sense of nostalgia.
A trip to Papershell isn’t complete without firstly exploring the orchards by foot (now is the best time to do so with the plants in full bloom) before indulging in a tasting bowl of the hand-harvested almonds that are naturally farmed from the orchards before you.

The delicate food menu highlights the Willunga area with most produce sourced locally and a drinks list that is filled with brewers of beer, coffee and kombucha all from the Fleurieu family.
Surahn and Jessica have put their heart and soul into the regeneration of the estate and are beyond excited to share its beauty with visitors from far and wide.
