Parachilna’s famous Prairie Hotel has a pop up in Adelaide til Saturday

This epic outback dining experience, featuring a feral food menu, is in Adelaide until Saturday.

A casual five hour drive from Adelaide, the just North of the Ikara-Flinders Ranges National Park is Parachilna, a tiny town where the iconic Prairie Hotel is located.

The historic pub, known for its feral food menu, has been acknowledged as an unmissable outback experience. With a focus on provenance, everything is sourced as locally as possible. In addition to feeding travellers, they also offer accommodation for those passing through the outback.

Whilst dining at the Prairie Hotel is an absolute MUST on any Australian bucket list, the distance means many of us may not get there any time soon – but if you’re quick, you can enjoy their sensational cuisine at their North Adelaide pop up while is operating until Saturday this week.

While the Prairie Hotel team are finalising plans for a partial reopening of operations in Parachilna from Friday 28 August, their North Adelaide pop up, Prairie on O’Connell, has been serving up some of their famous fare.

With merch, Provodore, and meals to order and enjoy, there’s plenty of reasons to head down to the O’Connell Street location for its last hurrah before the team head North again for Spring.

The menu includes dishes like their Paperbark Baby Barramundi, burgers (with your choice of kangaroo, goat, camel, emu, beef or chicken), saltbush garlic bread, bush Margherita pizza, or have it all with the meat lovers pizza which features bush tomato napoli, emu mince, camel mettwurst, kangaro, bacon and cheese. A family favourite!

The antipasto platter: Kangaroo pastrami, emu liver pate, camel mettwurst, chargrilled vegetables, olives, muntries chutney, bush tomato chilli jam & goats cheese served with ciabatta & saltbush grissini.

For desserts, options vary but can include things like Quandong pie, wattleseed s’mores, macadamia brownies, and desert & finger lime pie.

On the drinks list you’ll find only one range of wine, The Flinders Range. Obviously. And for beer, it’s Fargher Lager. It’s the only place in Adelaide you can find it so try it while you can!

Once the pop up closes, and operations recommence in Parachilna, you’ll be able to enjoy a new Prairie experience, which will look a little different with the introduction of a range of health and wellbeing measures to ensure greater safety, allowing guests to stay with confidence.

Their reopening plan will offer Prairie guests the security of a ‘Private Outback Lodge Experience’. As part of their COVID safe reopening strategy, all future accommodation bookings will be accepted on a prepackaged Dinner Bed & Breakfast basis only.
