With Spring well and truly here, it’s time to embrace the joys of the season and get out and about to immerse ourselves in the weather and all that South Australia has to offer. One thing that we’re known for in this beautiful state is our exceptional wines, and if you’re a self-confessed wine snob or simply want to discover something new and share a weekend getaway with friends, then Paracombe Wines in the Adelaide Hills has just the event for you.
From Friday the 13th to Sunday, October 15th, Paracombe Wines is hosting its Spring Cellar Door Weekend—inviting visitors to get a taste of the finest drops the vineyard has to offer at one of the prettiest times of the year. With the cellar door gardens in full bloom and the panoramic views that stretch all the way to Mt Lofty as a backdrop, the event promises to satisfy the senses in more ways than one.

Throughout the Spring Cellar Door Weekend, guests will be treated to a personalised tasting session with a wine line-up that showcases not just the classics but also introduces exciting new varieties from the vineyard.
And whilst the wines will no doubt be the heroes of the weekend, Paracombe is also providing the perfect sidekick to accompany your wine session, with delectable Charcuterie and Cheese boards included, featuring freshly curated, vibrant local produce that’s guaranteed to satisfy the appetite.
Owned and operated by husband and wife duo Paul and Kathy Drogemuller, the team at Paracombe Wines is looking forward to welcoming guests to experience the magic of the vineyard at this time of year.
‘We’ve had Spring Cellar Door Weekends since we first launched our homestead gardens in 1992, but we’re doing it a little different this time with the personalised tasting sessions that include the beautiful platters which are all made in-house and feature exquisite fresh produce—it’s a real immersive experience’, says Kathy.
Besides celebrating the beauty of the Spring season, Kathy and Paul are also commemorating their 40-year anniversary since purchasing the Paracombe property following the devastating 1983 Ash Wednesday bushfires.

‘When we bought the property, it was an old dairy farm that had been completely burnt out from the fires,’ says Kathy, ‘and although it took a fair bit of time to rebuild, we raised it up like a phoenix rising from the ashes!’
With no background or experience in winemaking, newlyweds Kathy and Paul lived on the homestead with their two young children at the time and took on the huge task of rebuilding the destroyed property and raising a vineyard from scratch.
‘We’re farmers, and we have done everything from the beginning—planting and growing the grapes, making wine from our tin shed, building the winery, and bottling and distributing all on-site,’ says Kathy.
‘An amazing thing about our vineyard is that it’s on a plateau, and we learnt early on from a geologist that the soils here are 1.7 billion years old, some of the oldest soils in the world. What that means is that they greatly influence our wines with beautiful mineral elements, and being a cooler climate, the wines are highly aromatic and filled with fine, delicate flavours that make them a pleasure to drink and enjoy,’ says Kathy.

Each session during the Spring Cellar Door Weekend will run for approximately an hour and a half, allowing guests the time to take in all the beauty and flavours of the vineyard. Group bookings are welcome, and any dietary preferences can be accommodated with prior notice to ensure everyone can enjoy all that’s on offer. For those with a tighter schedule, there’s also an exclusive wine-tasting option available at just $15 per person.
If you’re someone who appreciates exquisite wines or is simply looking for an excuse to escape the city and embark on a journey of flavours, then Paracombe Wines Spring Cellar Door Weekend is just the right event for you.
‘We welcome everyone to visit and experience the natural beauty of our vineyard whilst toasting one of our favourite seasons with fine wines, delicious food and great company.’
