International fashion photographer, Leah McQueen, regularly travels between Europe and NY, shooting designer fashion parades and celebrities. Originally from Adelaide, Leah shot for Glam Adelaide before heading overseas to expand her portfolio. In the ‘Fashion Abroad’ column, Leah shares her adventures with us, so that South Australians can share in her exciting experiences and find out what’s hot on catwalks around the world.
This week Leah shot the Haute Couture shows in Paris.
I had the most amazing time during the Paris menswear and couture shows this past week! The haute couture shows were absolutely breath-taking. I was lucky enough to go to all the big ones – Versace, Christian Dior, Chanel, Giorgio Armani Prive and Elie Saab.
My favourite show was Chanel, of course! Karl Lagerfeld always puts on a spectacular show with stunning collections. The Chanel couture show was held at the Grand Palais with trees and sand. I was backstage with Karl Lagerfeld after the Chanel show watching him being interviewed by all the international media. All his famous friends come backstage after the show to congratulate him on his beautiful collection. There were only a few photographers allowed during this time, so I felt very privileged to be ‘hanging out’ with Karl! He posed for the photographers, which was like having a private sitting with him.
A good friend and very talented Australian designer, Bowie, was sitting front row at the Elie Saab couture show yesterday so we had lunch together after the show. It was amazing seeing him again! There are many exciting things ahead for Bowie!
This was perhaps one of my favourite fashion week seasons – I had so much fun going to all the parties and seeing celebrities like Kevin Costner (my childhood crush!) at the shows. I loved seeing all the beautiful collections too, of course!
Back home in London now and getting ready for New York Fashion Week which starts 7th February next month!
