Parwana Kitchen hosted their much-anticipated fundraiser on Monday 6 September to provide relief for the civilians jarred amid the besieged Afghanistan turmoil.

The heart-warming event, as well as the online donation portal has reached an epic $70,000 in funds raised to date, and continues grow by day with the online auction still open.

As we observe the chaos Afghanistan has been riddled with, the owners of Parwana Kitchen, the Ayubi family, stand up to offer people who wish to support the displaced civilians of Afghanistan a way to throw a lifebuoy, or at the very least, a semblance of one.

The Parwana Kitchen team acknowledged the contours of tradition through live Afghan music, traditional Afghan goods and the sharing of emotionally crippling stories that discussed the disorder that spirals over the country.

The sold-out event was held at Plant 4 Bowden and decorated modestly, not taking attention away from the urgent cause. It was evident to all attendees that the owners have indeed paid homage to the strife-ridden country of Afghanistan.

Part owner, Ms Durkhamai Ayubi, says the event was a way of bringing Adelaide people a place to channel their emotions that connect to the tragedies of Afghanistan.

“I was born in Afghanistan myself, so I feel very connected to the devastations that are unfolding there. The event was a means of bringing the focus back to the people of Afghanistan and shifting the focus back to the people suffering through great traumas, and ultimately the systemic collapse of their country”.

“It was a way we could create funds, shift people’s understandings and really broaden awareness,” Ms Ayubi said.

The event consisted of innumerable heartfelt moments and a particular video appearance from the former Prime Minister, Ms Julia Gillard, who contributed an emotional speech of what it means to have a united front, in both a spiritual and practical sense.

The spacious room was said to have been filled wall to wall with donors, activists, and people who simply want to do their part in supporting Afghanistan.

The auctioned items entailed framed photographs, custom-made t-shirts, traditional wear and other items which are being purchased quickly.

the Ayubi family plans to donate the majority of the raised funds to the Afghan people through ACNC registered charities.

If you missed the event of events, fret not, because the donation portal and auction continues online with a whopping $70,000 raised to date. You can contribute yourself by visiting the website, here.
