The Payneham Tavern is in celebration mode, as they officially open the doors of their newly renovated venue. With a new bistro, sports bar, beer garden and kids’ playground, the long-standing local institution is out to show they can cater to a wider demographic and provide a great experience for every generation.
Venue Manager Nick Sandos says the old pub wasn’t quite hitting the mark with the community and locals who might not have been to the venue before can expect to be pleasantly surprised. “It’s nothing like it was,” says Nick, who is part of an almost completely new team who are welcoming locals back from today.
The $4 million renovations kicked off in April, starting with a brand-new kitchen. “A new kitchen means opportunities to increase our food offerings,” says Nick. Along with the usual suspects, punters can expect to sample potato gnocchi, eggplant lasagna and a range of mouth-watering hand stretched pizzas. The sports bar is also home to a brand new four-metre slim tech screen.
Greeting and seating, patrons can expect a friendly, experienced team of mostly local staff. “We’ve searched hard to find the right people.” The almost completely new group have undergone three days of intensive training, making sure they’re ready to match the energy of their new setting.
Along with a welcoming atmosphere and delicious food, the Payneham team have their sights set on offering a look and feel that makes locals feel like they can make new memories. “It’s important to us to create a sense of community,” says Nick. They are proud sponsors of the Payneham Norwood United Football club, as well as local darts team, the Payneham Knights.
As for the highly anticipated playground, said to Nick said his kids were looking forward to being the first ones in.
Monday the 28th of October was the venue soft opening, which is to be followed by a weekend earmarked just for locals, featuring a meet and greet with special guest Mark Ricciuto.
Tuesday October 29th is Local Schools Community Night, an initiative aimed at connecting local families. Children might even bump into a few friendly faces like Elsa and Spiderman.
Going forward, Thursday nights, teams can try their hand at trivia hosted by comedians, in “Funny Quiz” and Friday, Saturday and Sunday will see local DJs and live bands taking to the stage to entertain. Sunday is all about families, with alternating activities including free face painting, animal encounters and balloon artists.
After all their hard work, the Payneham crew are looking forward to ushering in a new era in Royston Park hospitality. “It’s been a long few months, and we’re really excited to welcome everyone back.” Those looking for a front row seat to the action can find the latest food and drink options, check out what’s on and book a table on their website.
