A recent pop up in Sydney has added fuel to the fire that Pearl Jam may be making their way down under for the first time in a decade.
Over the weekend, keen eyed fans spotted Pearl Jam posters, inviting fans to take a trip down memory lane with “activation areas”.
Custom posters were found at a bus shelter at the intersection of Campbell Parade/ Hall St in Sydney with an “Alive Stickman” logo installation. From there, fans followed a pathway to its end and find a custom Pearl Jam traffic light pole and pedestrian crossing activation.
A prompt showing “press play for Pearl Jam” allowed fans to hear a snippet of unreleased new music from the band. And what often follows new music? That’s right, a tour.
In a Instagram post, tour promoters Live Nation finished the pop up announcement with “MJR GLOBAL ANNOUNCEMENT NEXT WEEK”.
Just last month, the Seattle-based rock icons sent Aussie fans into yet another frenzy, after posting a throwback performance f their 1998 ‘Do The Evolution’ performance at Melbourne Park.
The caption, filled with Australian references and a hint at ticket presales, sent tongues wagging: ‘Are you koala-fied for our ticket presales? Not a current member? Hop to it, mate! #TenDaysOfPJ’.
The band, renowned for their epic live performances, last thrilled Aussie audiences during the final Big Day Out festival in 2014.
This post has strengthened the rumours that Pearl Jam might be planning a return to Australian shores. Enthusiastic fans on Pearl Jam’s subreddit have been busy piecing together potential tour dates and locations. The speculated itinerary includes Australian and New Zealand shows, rumored to kick off from November 8 to 10 in Auckland, before moving to Gold Coast, Sydney, and Melbourne between November 13 to 23.
Adding fuel to the fire, its rumoured that Pearl Jam could be the headline act for the Vailo Adelaide 500 motorsport race concert series. The event, scheduled for November 14-17, 2024, is known for its star-studded lineups, having previously hosted Robbie Williams and the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
Furthermore, the opening of a Pearl Jam waitlist by Ticketmaster is seen as another sign that these rumours could be materialising into reality.
While official confirmation is yet to come, these three strong indicators – the band’s intriguing Instagram post, the rumoured tour dates, and the ticketing waitlist – have given fans strong hope that Pearl Jam will indeed grace Australian stages in 2024.
So hold tight Aussies, it’s important that we take what we can get and if you’re in Bondi, why not head along to the activation area and see it all for yourself.
