Get a taste of one of South Australia’s oldest wine regions and immerse yourself in the character and lush greenery of a vineyard on a guided electric bicycle tour. Based in the beautiful Adelaide Hills, Bike About offers wellness adventures, single and multi-day tours and bicycle hire in some of South Australia’s most picturesque surroundings.
Their latest venture gives riders the chance to “Experience Barossa” on a food and wine e-bike tour. Synonymous for its fine wines, chocolate and cheeses, riders will wind their way through the valley and take in some of the most picturesque vineyards and hidden gems.
Tours run Wednesday, Friday and Saturday and are an interesting and active way to savour and visit four premium locations and their world-famous produce.
The bespoke tour begins at Yalumba, the oldest winery in Australia, where riders are transported back to 1849 to learn about the changes in wine production throughout history.
Bike About managing director Jack Young says the tour gives visitors the opportunity to take in the wine making process in a new light.
“At Yalumba, we do a walk-through of where the barrels are made. It’s a cooperage factory and is the only winery in the Southern Hemisphere that still makes their own barrels,” says Jack.
From there, experienced guides will take riders on e-bikes to the Barossa Valley Chocolate Company, where a hot chocolate and cake awaits, and of course some of the finest chocolate the Barossa has to offer.
Next up, it’s a trip to Artisans where riders will savour any six wines from their premium collection, including the exclusive ‘Rarities’ list.
“It’s a very personal bespoke tour as in tasting as the wines have been specifically chosen,” says Jack. “The paths we travel on are all sealed as well so it’s very safe for those who may be nervous about handling a bike.”
And what would a wine tasting be without cheese? Four mouth-watering cheeses will be served up at the famous Barossa Valley Cheese Company, then its back on the e-bikes to Yalumba for a delectable artisan platter for lunch where riders have the rare opportunity to experience Yalumba’s signature cellar to siphon wine from the barrel.
“Their signature cellar is an important icon within the region and to siphon wine from the barrels is an experience in itself,” says Jack.
Bike About has revolutionalised adventure tourism and enhanced the local economy since introducing their food and wine tours to riders in the Barossa Valley, Clare Valley, Langhorn Creek and McLaren Vale.
Tours are approximately six hours in duration and cost $295.
