People’s Choice Credit Union has today announced a three-year partnership with the Santos Tour Down Under as naming rights sponsor of the opening event of the race – formerly known as the Down Under Classic.
The People’s Choice Classic will kick off the 2013 Santos Tour Down Under with a 51 kilometre dash around a street circuit in the East End of Adelaide on 20 January 2013.
People’s Choice Managing Director, Peter Evers, said as one of the largest organisations head-officed in South Australia, the iconic cycling event was the perfect fit for the brand.
“Like the Santos Tour Down Under we’ve grown from humble beginnings to become one of the largest credit unions in the country offering a real alternative to the major banks,” he said.
“The event is uniquely South Australian, exciting, fun and innovative with a strong ambition to grow and let more people experience it. They’re all characteristics of the People’s Choice brand.
“Just as it has been in the past, the People’s Choice Classic in 2013 will be a must see event and we again expect 100,000 plus people lining the streets to catch a glimpse of these world class athletes.
“We’re extremely proud to partner with this fantastic event and look forward to 2013 race being one of the best ever.”
Hitaf Rasheed, General Manager, Events South Australia said that the Santos Tour Down Under is delighted to welcome People’s Choice to the event’s sponsorship family.
“We are looking forward to working with People’s Choice to align their brand values with that of the Santos Tour Down Under, to further collectively grow the event and specifically the People’s Choice Classic.”
The Santos Tour Down Under partnership adds to a growing list of high profile sponsorships for People’s Choice, including the Adelaide Strikers T20 Big Bash team and the BASSINTHEGRASS music festival in the Northern Territory.
The Santos Tour Down Under is an annual six-stage cycling event (plus the People’s Choice Classic) held in Adelaide and other South Australian regions, with the 2013 event running from 20-27 January. The race is part of the prestigious UCI WorldTour and attracts some of cycling’s biggest names as well as hundreds of thousands of spectators to South Australia for a week-long festival of cycling.
