Tina Turner’s music is still as popular and relevant today as it was when she released her first chart topping albums. Her music is full of anthems that have shaped so many people’s lives, and her life has even been turned into an award winning musical. Her passing in 2023 had a real impact on the world. Thankfully, artists like Rebecca O’Connor are doing their bit to keep her music alive. O’Connor has crafted a stellar show, Tina – Simply The Best, that has seen her tour the world, performing to sell-out audiences.

Rebecca O’Connor is more than a tribute act. She has created a wonderful production that honours the life and musical legacy of Tina Turner. For two hours audiences are treated to a joyous celebration of Tina Turner’s greatest hits. Vocally, O’Connor has mastered Turner’s gravely rasp and belt — you would swear you were listening to Turner herself. She is engaging and certainly knows how to work an audience.

The first half opened with What You See is What You Get, from Turner’s 1996 album Every Rule. The hits kept rolling: Shake Your Tail Feather, I Can’t Stand The Rain, What’s Love Got To Do With It?. The fifty minute first half flew by, ending with River Deep – Mountain High. The second half soon had the audience up on their feet with ‘the big ones’, including Steamy Windows, We Don’t Need Another Hero, Private Dancer, Nutbush City Limits, Disco Inferno and Proud Mary. The performance ended with the anthem Simply The Best that left the audience cheering for more long after O’Connor left the stage.

Backing Rebecca is one tight, hot band that navigate Turner’s huge catalogue of hits with ease. The band, consisting of guitar, bass, keyboards, drums and tenor saxophone bring the energy that lifts this show to next level entertainment. The addition of two brilliant dancers, bringing some of Turner’s signature choreography to the stage, is the icing on the cake.

O’Connor is the only working Tina Turner act that has been personally endorsed by Turner herself. In Turner’s own words “Rebecca is so good, it’s scary”… and she’s not wrong. Rebecca O’Connor is sensational. In fact, she’s simply the best.
