Petaluma Cellar Door in Woodside is shaking things up by bringing in two of Tasmania’s top wine brands, Bay of Fires and Eddystone Point. It’s a move that’s got wine lovers buzzing with excitement and marks a cool new chapter for the local wine scene, especially for those who love a good cool climate wine.
Petaluma is all about picking the best grapes from the best cool climate regions, and by adding these Tasmanian labels to their lineup, they’re making their already impressive selection even better.
National Cellar Door Manager, Andrew McDowell, sheds light on the collaboration, explaining, “Our Tasmanian wines will now share centre stage at our Woodside Cellar Door, providing a comparative experience for our member base and visitors. The Adelaide Hills setting allows for an exploration of nuances between these varietals from different regions.”
It’s like a backstage pass to taste the difference between these regions without having to hop on a plane or drive for hours.
The Petaluma Cellar Door itself is a contemporary haven with a breathtaking balcony offering panoramic views of the Hills—a promise of a memorable and immersive wine-tasting experience.
Seasoned Tasmanian winemaker, Stewart Byrne, who has been with Bay of Fires and Eddystone Point for over six years has been promoted to Lead Winemaker. Byrne expresses his enthusiasm, saying, “I am thrilled to embark on this new chapter, bringing my passion and expertise back to Bay of Fires. The commitment to revealing and celebrating the varietal characteristics of Tasmanian fruit aligns seamlessly with my winemaking philosophy. And Eddystone Point, with its fresh backbone of acidity and experimental edge, has been a fascinating journey—one that I am excited to continue.”
What’s cool is that even though these wines are now going to be featured in Adelaide Hills, they’re still all about Tasmanian fruit.
Both brands have a strong reputation for their commitment to quality and cool climate wines, with Bay of Fires setting up shop in the 1990s and Eddystone Point joining the scene in 2013. This partnership is a nod to the quality and diversity of Tasmanian wine, bringing something different to the Petaluma tasting table.
Petaluma Wines remains committed to collaborative efforts with regional tourism partners and the South Australian Tourism Commission to elevate premium tourism offerings.
