Autumn in the Adelaide Hills is about to get even more delicious, as Chardonnay May makes a grand return for a month-long celebration of one of the region’s most iconic varietals. Running throughout May, wineries all around the region open their doors and welcome Chardonnay lovers with a range of activations and events.
Chardonnay May transforms the region into a passport-style tasting trail, encouraging lovers of wine to go between cellar doors and discover the very best of this cool-climate variety. If you’re mapping out your must-visit stops, Petaluma is serving up not one, but two standout experiences.
Located in Woodside, Petaluma has long been recognised as a benchmark producer of premium Chardonnay. With vineyards in the ultra-cool Piccadilly Valley, where high altitude, ancient soils and crisp conditions make for a unique terroir that gives the wines their signature elegance, bright acidity and layered complexity.

For those keen to dive deeper into the craft, the Cool Expressions of Chardonnay experience is a must. This is a curated tasting that showcases a selection of Petaluma’s premium Chardonnays. Guests will learn how the region, site and winemaking techniques influence flavour and style, making for a refined, educational experience that offers a true appreciation of why Adelaide Hills Chardonnay continues to turn heads on the global stage.
If you prefer something a little more relaxed, Chardonnay & Croissants is one you’ll want to add to your itinerary. It’s a laid-back morning session designed for pure indulgence. Inspired by the brand’s much-loved Croser and Croissant format, this experience pairs a flight of Chardonnay with freshly baked gourmet croissants and seasonal accompaniments. This is the perfect, approachable twist on brunch, great for everything from a casual catch-up to a weekend treat with friends.
Both experiences form part of the official Chardonnay May Passport Trail, meaning each stop gets you closer to prizes while encouraging you to explore more of the region’s best producers. Once you’ve grabbed your passport from any of the participating wineries, including Petaluma, all you have to do is visit at least five participating cellar doors, either purchase a bottle, enjoy a tasting or participate in a Chardonnay May event and have each cellar door stamp your map/passport with a sticker. Then simply upload a photo of your stamped map and enter your details via the QR code, for your chance to win a fabulous Chardonnay-themed prize.
Beyond the tastings, Petaluma’s story is one of passion. Founded in 1976, the winery was built on the philosophy of matching the right grape to the right region, a principle that continues to guide its winemaking today. Every bottle reflects a meticulous, hands-on approach, with a focus on quality, site expression and consistency.
So if you’re looking for the perfect way to spend your autumn, Petaluma’s Chardonnay May experiences are ones you won’t want to miss. Bookings are available now, and with a full calendar of events across the region, there’s never been a better excuse to head to the Hills.
