Phoenix Sweets Cakery launches Instagram-worthy high tea experience in Hyde Park

Phoenix Sweets Cakery in Hyde park has launched a gorgeous high tea experience with an array of savoury and sweet options.

Phoenix Sweets Cakery, a popular bakery with origins in Hong Kong, brought its unique blend of edible artistry to King William Road in 2022. Now, to add another layer to its charm, it’s launched a luxurious high tea experience.

The story of the shop began with a devotion for baking and an eye for design, and you can see that level of passion in its new high tea offering.

“Phoenix Sweets Cakery enjoy refined artistry and everything pretty, and we’ve put this mindset into the design of the high tea menu filled with beautiful cupcakes matched with pretty edible flowers and personally selected crockery,” owner Gary says.

Nestled in a boutique that exudes the charm of a French art gallery, with an array of cakes gracing its shelves and vintage-inspired pastel crockery, owner Gary describes Phoenix Sweets Cakery as the ultimate high tea destination.

“Customers always tell us how beautiful our store is, so we explored different ways for people to enjoy it and we decided high tea was the obvious option,” Gary says. “The whole set up is very Instagramable.”

You’ll be treated with a range of savoury options like boujee finger sandwiches, alongside cakes and pastries which the Hyde Park venue is known for – think mixed berry cupcakes, custard fruit tarts, mini lemon passion fruit pavlovas, mini chocolate cupcakes, macrons and more.

“Back in Hong Kong we baked lots of cakes for huge local celebrities in both entertainment and political fields, our brand is a very well-known name for handcrafted cakes. We’ve been running our family-owned business since 2012 and we still have our bakery running in our home country,” co-founder Gary says.

“Our cakes have a different cultural origin and we’ve brought that flavour to Adelaide.”

Some of those cakes are on offer in this high tea experience, filled with cream that sets them apart from other shops in Adelaide. There’s a whole range of flavours that are less-sweet that others and is a testament to the bakery’s commitment to delivering something distinct.

The set up also comes with scones which the team at Phoenix Sweets has perfected.

The experience for two comes in at $100, with the venue now offering gift vouchers to purchase so you can treat your loved ones.

“People have loved it so far. We’ve seen lots of people bring their friends or loved ones to have deep chats over the tea,” Gary says.

Phoenix Sweets Cakery’s high tea sessions will be available on Monday, Wednesday through Saturday, with two sessions at 11:00 am and 1:00 pm. Each high tea set offers an assortment of savoury and sweet delights, along with a wide selection of teas and coffee.

While you’re there, if you’re cheesecake lover you should ask about Pheonix Sweets Cakery’s new lineup of Basque Burnt Cheesecakes. They’re a creamy, mouth-melting texture, with a selection that includes five premium flavours: Original, Earl Grey, Strawberry, Matcha Red Bean Mochi, and for the daring, the whole Musang King Durian cake (advance order required).

“We’ve been receiving really great feedback on social media about our new offering, so we can’t wait for more people to try them,” Gary says.
