When one of the McLaren Vale’s most amazing wineries comes to the city for one weekend only, you know that event has our name all over it!
Held on Friday 5 and Saturday 6 February, the Ciao Ciao Coriole Pop-Up at the Producers Hotel on Grenfell Street was an evening of Mediterranean delight, and a perfect lead up to the coming Fringe season. It has definitely set the tone in what to expect this year. Not just a simple pop-up bar in an under-utilised space, but an established venue bringing the cellar door experience to the heart of the city. Italian style wines, and inspired foods, sweets and local music acts got the Producers venue vibing and jiving.
The collaboration brought Coriole wines from McLaren Vale, a very well renowned vineyard that cultivates Italian grapes. Forget your typical wines, instead we were shown varieties such as Nero D’Avola, Barbera, Sangiovese, Fiano and Prosecco. All grapes that originate in various locations around Italy. And all styles that are slowly making a big name in the Australian wine market.
Aside form the wine tasting and the Tuscan feels, there was plenty more on offer. The Producers Hotel kept with the theme and served Italian styled antipasto platters and wood-fired pizzas. Live music also kept the atmosphere alit throughout the night thanks to Bec Stevens (Tasmania), and local acts Heymus and Koral & the Goodbye Horses.
It was a perfect night for a group of friends or family to enjoy. Tame yet alive. A cellar door experience without the need to travel out of the city.
When a moon hits your eye like a big pizza pie,
That’s amore,
When the world seems to shine like you’ve had too much wine
That’s Coriole…
