A Meadows sunflower field is inviting guests to pick their own flowers and we couldn’t be more excited. Here at Glam Adelaide, we are sunflower fanatics and we love the beaming symbols of sunshine.

This week only from Tuesday, January 18 to Saturday, January 22, Atkins Farm in Meadows is opening its fields to Sunflower lovers to pick their own blooms.

Visitors are invited to go and take a walk through the bright flowers, take a sunflower selfie, and browse through the best of the bunch.

Entry to the field is $22 per person, which will let you meander the fields and collect up to 10 stems.

For those looking to pick a bigger bouquet, additional stems can be picked and purchased for $2 per flower.

There will be three sessions held daily at 9 am, 10 am and 11 am. The 30-minute sunflower picking session requires guests to bring their own baskets and snips, however, the sunshine, stunning sunflowers and good times will be provided by Atkins Farm.

To minimise your impact, Atkins Farm asks guests to only pick the stems that they intend to take with them and leave the rest for others to enjoy.

Monika McArthur, owner of Atkins Farm, said she has always loved gardening and wanted to share her passion with others.

“I love flowers and eighteen months ago when covid-hit my dream was to have my own flowers to pick so we decided to go big and plant an entire paddock with Sunflowers,” said Monika.

“We wanted to do something fun so decided to grow sunflowers and they bloomed so we decided to open the field up for family and friends and they had a really positive experience so now we’ve opened to the public.”

Atkins farm which has been in Monika’s husbands family for three generations which was formerly a dairy and potatoes crop is now a livestock farm, turned sunflower field.

“We are an operational sheep farm, but decided to bring a bit of sunshine and happiness and as well as an opportunity to escape what’s going on in the world by planting a sunflower field.”

“Visiting [the field] is a great opportunity to do a covid-safe activity that’s outdoors with the kids. We have a bench seat and really family-friendly environment, that allows people to pick some flowers and take some sunshine home with them.”

Monika continued, “we have lots of beautiful big sunflowers, so we might add more dates depending on how many flowers are left.”

Monika who has already received plenty of positive feedback on the sunflower picking experience says she’s excited to invite visitors to her farm to enjoy an escape from reality whilst soaking in the happiness sunflowers provide.

Monika continued by advising guests to wear  ‘farm mindful’ clothing and footwear’ as bees can be attracted to the bright blooms.

Atkins Farm is located at 940 Battunga Road, Meadows, SA 5201
