Looking for an Insta-worthy adventure this summer that will really make your feed pop with colour? Atkins Farm in the Adelaide Hills has announced they are open for another spectacular sunflower season, where you can pick some of the most beautiful blooms you’ve ever seen.

Atkins Farm shared news on their Facebook page about the upcoming sunflower season, saying: “It’s been a challenging growing season for us with little rain, but we’re happy to announce that we do have a field of sunflowers patiently waiting to bloom!” And bloomed they have!

Located in Meadows, just 50 minutes from Adelaide, Atkins Farm has been around for a long time, and has a colourful history dating back to the 1920s. The sunflower season began in 2022 when the farm decided to plant a field of sunflowers, inspired by their passion for gardening and the stunning surroundings.

The idea quickly became a local sensation, with South Aussies flocking to the farm to handpick sunflowers and capture amazing photos among the golden blooms. Now, every summer, Atkins Farm continues to invite visitors to enjoy this magical experience.

Each sunflower session lasts 50 minutes, with strictly timed slots so that everyone gets a chance to enjoy the field. This process allows visitors to fully immerse themselves in the experience without feeling rushed, while also helping the farm to accommodate as many guests as possible.

While other farms in South Australia, like The Barns of Freeling, have had to skip sunflower picking this year due to an unusually dry season, Atkins Farm has fortunately been able to push through. The Barns of Freeling shared that sunflowers need wet soil to sprout and grow, and with only 180mm of rainfall in 2024, it was a challenging season for them.

Thankfully, Atkins Farm’s sunflowers have thrived, and it’s now time to start picking! Tickets are available in advance, so make sure you sign up for their mailing list to avoid missing out.
