Picnic At Picturesque Country Races This Weekend!

South Australia’s Spring Racing Carnival shifts it’s attention to the countryside this weekend with one of the most beautiful race courses in SA on show.

The major meets in the East are all done, and Morphettville is pretty quiet until December, so those with the itch for a bit of glamour and the races should look to the country! The opportunity to picnic at one of South Australia’s most picturesque racecourses is just one of the highlights of this year’s Langhorne Creek Cup.

Held on Sunday, November 20 at the Strathalbyn Racecourse, racegoers will seize the opportunity to indulge in some of the region’s top wines from Gipsie Jack, Bleasdale, Bremerton, Lake Breeze, Kimbolton and Fabal Wines as they take in the on-track action.

Langhorne Creek is a premium red grape growing area where passionate winemaking families have resided for six generations.

Bleasdale brand ambassador Robbie Potts, whose great, great grandfather Frank founded Bleasdale Vineyards in 1850, has been involved in the event since its inception two decades ago.

“We’ve been participating in the Langhorne Creek Cup since the mid-1990s. It’s got a relaxed country vibe but still feels quite glamorous at the same time. It’s definitely a unique mix and something we enjoy being part of every year,” Mr Potts said.

The Cup is taking a more relaxed approach in 2016, with racegoers invited to pack their own picnic rug and a basket full of goodies and unwind on the manicured lawns.

For those looking to purchase their meals on the day, stalls will include Squid Inc, Slush Happy, Cheese Please, Coffee Bean, Sword ‘n’ Ox and Adelaide Woodfired Pizza.

Whether it’s an artisan cheese selection, a rustic wood oven pizza, gourmet seafood, tender smoked meat, a cool beverage or a perfectly roasted coffee patrons are after, this year’s vendors have it covered.
