There’s more than one side to any story, and this subversive puppet show tells the tale of The Three Little Pigs from the wolf’s perspective.

Suffering a minor bout of swine flu, the unfortunately named Big Bad Wolf pays a call to his new neighbours seeking to borrow a cup of sugar. His attempts to explain that he is ‘bacon’ a cake for his granny is met with disinterest and contempt from the pigs occupying the newly built homes.

Tony Moore narrates the story, sitting to one side with a storybook and looking like an affectionate Santa. His charm wins over the kids easily, but he needs to use a microphone to be more readily heard over the enthusiastic young audience, particularly when he is regularly interrupted by a ditzy Red Riding Hood who can’t find her own story. Kung Fu Pandas Wang Wang and Funi also make a surprise cameo appearance to everyone’s delight.

Puppeteers Nathan Porteus, Kat Ticli and Zaen Kreecha work their magic with very distinct characters and voices, and their Victorian puppets look intricate and beautiful.  There ares some adult moments that go over the kid’s heads, such as the appearance of a bible with a crucifix on the front and a dollar sign on the back; and a police chase that is set to the Benny Hill theme. It’s all in the name of fun however, and there’s plenty of that for all ages in this pleasing well-mannered family comedy.
