Pikes Wines is celebrating huge wins at the 2024 Clare Valley Wine Show as it marks its 40th anniversary in winemaking. The family-owned winery received multiple awards, even amid recent challenges from a severe frost that impacted its vineyards.
The winery won four trophies and several medals, including:
- Best Sweet White: Pikes ‘First Cut’ Riesling 2023
- Best Rosé: Pikes ‘Luccio’ Sangiovese Rosé 2024
- Best Dry White (Other than Riesling): Pikes ‘Luccio’ Albariño 2024
- Chair of Judges Award: Pikes ‘Olga Emmie’ Riesling 2024
- Wine of Provenance Gold Medal: Pikes ‘The Merle’ Riesling 2012, 2016, 2024
- Gold Medal: Pikes ‘Luccio’ Fiano 2024
- Silver Medals: Pikes ‘The Merle’ Riesling 2024, Pikes ‘Traditionale’ Riesling 2024, 2019, and Pikes ‘The Merle’ Riesling 2019

While Pikes is celebrating these exciting achievements, the winery is also dealing with the fallout from a frost that recently hit its vineyards, leading to an estimated 70% reduction in yield.
“It has been a rollercoaster of a week. On Tuesday, we were hit by a severe frost that has devastated our Polish Hill River vineyard’s early spring growth. The next few weeks will reveal how the vines recover, but at best, we are looking at a 70% reduction in yield,” Managing Director Jamie Pike said.
“This news is a tough blow, particularly for our dedicated vineyard team. However, these wins could not have come at a better time, recognising the team’s hard work, expertise, and unwavering commitment.
“Although the challenges ahead are significant, I remain optimistic. We have a strong inventory of red and white wines already bottled, as well as in tank and barrel.
“The support of our customers has been invaluable over the years, and I am confident they will continue to support us. These recent awards are a testament to the resilience and quality that have defined Pikes Wines for 40 years.”
As Pikes Wines looks to the future, it invites the community to support them by purchasing their wines or visiting the winery in Clare Valley. Visitors can enjoy tastings, dine at the award-winning SLATE Restaurant, and explore offerings from Pikes Beer Co.
