Pilates Barossa and BIGG win big with rural resilience initiative at RMC awards

Pilates Barossa and BIGG celebrated winning the Best Rural Communicator Award with their impactful campaign aimed at enhancing mental and physical health in rural communities.

Pilates Barossa is celebrating the recent achievement of the Barossa Improved Grazing Group (BIGG), which won the Best Rural Communicator Award at the Rural Media & Communicators SA/NT (RMC) awards dinner on December 6th, 2024. BIGG received this accolade for their communications campaign titled Strengthening Rural Connections: The BIGG Impact, which played a key role in connecting rural communities with various organisations and government bodies.

The campaign which focused on issues like drought resilience and preparedness, has been the Core Strength for Rural Living Pilates program, a collaborative effort with Pilates Barossa, aimed at addressing both mental and physical health to better tackle the adversities specific to rural lifestyles.

“By looking after themselves, not just their properties, farmers and other participants became much better equipped in dealing with the challenges of a tough year. This campaign certainly struck an emotional chord,” shared the RMC SA/NT judges.

The success of this initiative is attributed to the combined efforts of the BIGG team, industry partners such as the Foundation for Rural and Regional Renewal, Future Drought Fund, and SA Drought Hub, and importantly the farmers and community members who embraced the program.

BIGG’s approach to nurturing community ties includes hosting pasture walks, distributing newsletters, and maintaining a dynamic online resource hub. These efforts are designed to support Barossa livestock producers and rural families by providing valuable resources, and strategies, and engaging community initiatives like the Pilates program.

This award not only signifies a celebration of past achievements but also serves as an inspiration for future endeavours within the Barossa community. Plans are in place to continue the Core Strength for Rural Living Program throughout 2025, affirming the ongoing dedication to enhancing the lives of Barossa’s rural population.

This partnership and the recognition it has received, highlights the importance of holistic approaches to rural community support, blending physical health initiatives with broader communication and resilience-building strategies, proving that strength, indeed, comes from within.
