The Pint of Science Festival returns to Adelaide for 2026 with three nights of scientific knowledge discovery at the Wheatsheaf Hotel in Thebarton. Three sessions, multiple topics and nine speakers from local universities, uniting to share their expertise and fuel interest in an industry that is constantly evolving.
The festival, widely recognised as a celebration of science and discovery, is a worldwide event that runs in 27 countries and has become a permanent feature on SA’s calendar since 2014. Pint of Science Australia is run entirely by an army of volunteers, combining 195+ researchers and 200+ science enthusiasts who run a variety of events across the country. Instead of learning about science in a stuffy lecture room, why not soak up real knowledge over a few beers at the local pub?

“Something that is unique about Pint of Science events is the opportunity to interact with real experts face-to-face in a relaxed atmosphere. We create an informal and inclusive space to encourage open discussion,” says event co-CEO Anna Oszmiana. “We believe that, in a time of information overload where sorting fact from fiction isn’t always easy, access to genuine expertise can make a real difference in building understanding and clarity.”
“One of the things I really love about Pint of Science events is seeing the first-timers – they often come in not quite knowing what to expect, and then you watch their faces light up with curiosity and excitement throughout the evening,” says Anna. “It’s the most gratifying feeling and makes all the year-round work absolutely worth it! Pint of Science events truly have a wonderful atmosphere.”
The festival kicks off on Monday 18 May with discussions of the original colours of medieval art, new molecules for more sustainable industries, and the effects of microplastics on our bodies and environment.
Tuesday 19 May asks the question: Why are we afraid of sharks? Featuring an in-depth discussion of the psychology behind fear, followed by an investigation into koala communication, and studies of genetics and climate change.
Finishing up on Wednesday 20 May, learn about daily habits and general wellbeing, challenges of gene editing, and how community-based health checks during the AFL Gather Round are helping to identify risks for diabetes and heart disease earlier.
If engaging scientific conversations over a few drinks in a relaxed environment sound like an evening well-spent, be sure to check out Pint of Science and book in for a session…or three! Also stay tuned for some authentic event merchandise, available for purchase at the events.
