Police Commissioner Stevens joins Operation Flinders

South Australian Police Commissioner Grant Stevens and Rear Admiral The Honourable Kevin Scarce AC, CSC are both joining the board, of Operation Flinders, which is known for its 8-day outback early intervention program.

Operation Flinders celebrates its 30 years of helping the young people of South Australia by a change up of the Board, including the addition of South Australian Police Commissioner Grant Stevens. The Foundation, known for its 8-day outback early intervention program saw a rebrand of its tag line – One Step at a Time, and celebrated the milestone of having helped 9,000 young people across its history.

Following such an active year of growth and change, the Foundation is excited to announce several new additions to the Board, along with departures from long term members.

The Foundation welcomes Rear Admiral The Honourable Kevin Scarce AC, CSC to the position of Chair. The previous Governor of South Australia will be taking over role of Chair from Rob Stobbe. Rob Stobbe, current Chief Executive Officer of SA Power Networks is stepping down from his role after 10 years with the Foundation Board.

Mr Stobbe said, “I leave my role as Chair knowing the Foundation is under excellent future leadership with Kevin taking on the role. Commissioner Stevens will bring his vast understanding of the importance of the cause of Operation Flinders”

Commissioner Grant Stevens who recently attended his first Board meeting expressed his interest in the early intervention program for young people and the importance of the Foundation within the South Australian Community.

“Operation Flinders strives to give young people a future of vast opportunities and shows them they have control over their lives, apart from the cards they have been dealt” Commissioner Stevens said.

The Foundation also welcomes Chief Inspector Wendy Mazik as a Board Observer, bringing expertise in the field of child protection. They also farewell long-term Board member Janet Leske who over several years of service, was imperative in the profile of the Foundation.

The Board members of the Foundation are incredibly engaged and active, taking time to speak to the young people who have been through the core program. Commissioner Stevens and Chair Rear Admiral Scarce both look forward to being part of transforming the lives of young people.
