Boutique pop-up gin bar Storytellers @ The Mortlock is booked in to the State Library of South Australia this month.

The pop-up gin bar is a partnership between Thebarton-based distillery Storytellers Distillery and the library and is the first of its kind in the space.

Gin lovers will be in high spirits as they enjoy a curated selection of award-winning gins from the Storytellers Distillery range paired with top shelf mixers in the beautiful backdrop of the iconic Mortlock Chamber.

The gin bar will coincide with the annual winter event Illuminate Adelaide City Lights, making it a great place to kick back, relax and warm up with a gin or two during the the hustle and bustle of North Terrace.

Storytellers Distillery Head Distiller, Lachlan Gunner, is excited to be mixing up stories at the State Library.

“We’re absolutely thrilled to join forces with the State Library as storytelling is at the very core of our craft. Our mission has always been to craft spirits that unfold stories with each sip, and this partnership with the State Library feels like a natural fit,” Lachlan said.

“We can’t contain our excitement as we prepare to transform the Mortlock Chamber and enjoy this iconic space like never before.”

Storytellers Distillery is relatively fresh to the gin scene, founded in November 2020 by cocktail bartender Lachlan Gunner and established by a small team with a passion for hand crafted spirits who carry the motto ‘every sip tells a story.’

The unique and exciting spirits are crafted using local botanicals with their Volume 1: Australian Dry Gin the first chapter in the story, which has been joined by a Grenache Sour Gin, Tickled Pink Strawberry Gin and Australian Lemon Scented Grass Gin since its release along with Grenache Sour Gin and Tonic cans and ‘Hyperseasonal’ monthly limited edition releases.

The State Library of South Australia Director, Geoff Strempel is thrilled to be partnering with Storytellers Distillery to deliver a new chapter for the Mortlock Chamber.

“As the custodian of stories, the State Library couldn’t think of a better fit than partnering with Storytellers Distillery, whose brand is based around storytelling. We invite visitors to share a story in our first pop-up gin bar in what will be a truly unique experience in the Mortlock Chamber,” Geoff said.

Special events will also take place whilst the gin bar is open, including live music by Substance on Saturday, July 8th along with ticketed events including Adelaide Fringe award-winning immersive and interactive tarot storytelling experience TattleTales on July 15th, and a night of partying in peace at the Please be Quiet! Silent Disco! on July 22nd.

The pop-up bar is free to attend and people can also peruse an archival display of gin-related material from the expansive collection at the State Library during their visit.
