The doors on Cheffy Chelby’s, an award-winning breakfast burger bar, will close at the end of this week in the latest hospitality casualty.
The journey of Cheffy Chelby’s began amidst the challenges posed by the global pandemic in 2020. Michelle, a chef by trade, decided to venture out on her own, starting with a trailer in the carpark of Port Noarlunga. Her passion and culinary prowess soon transformed the humble trailer into the first physical store of Cheffy Chelby’s, garnering numerous accolades, including the prestigious SA’s Best Burger Café in 2020.
Michelle’s ambition led her to expand, opening a second location in neighbouring Morphett Vale. However, the path to success encountered unexpected obstacles when a structural issue with the roof forced the closure of the flagship Port Noarlunga restaurant. Shortly thereafter, plans to open a third shopfront in Aldinga also fell through.
Despite the setbacks, Michelle’s unwavering dedication to her craft and her desire to create vibrant workplaces for passionate individuals in the hospitality industry kept her moving forward. Her resilient spirit allowed her to continue chasing her dreams and provided an opportunity for her to be a more present mother to her daughter.
Taking to social media to confirm the news, Michelle asked followers to support the stores as much as possible before close.
“Please come say seeya laters to the crew at Morphett Vale this week, they’re going to miss y’all.
“Don’t ask them questions, just let them enjoy their last few shifts happily and share some love and memories.”
Like many local SA hospitality venues, the running costs were too great to keep the business viable.
Michelle had only just recently opened another store in Hallett Cove, with locals flocking on their infamous BEC roll with HP sauce and the Hangover burger.
So if you’re out and about and still see the open sign on the door, give Cheffy Chelby’s the love they deserve before they close on Sunday.
